Once in a lifetime birthday party...

Carter is obsessed with soccer. How obsessed can a now 9 year old be? Well he would play all day, everyday if he could. He stays after practice to shoot, over and over. He plays year round, futsol, indoor, anything! He records and will watch soccer from any country, any team. He'll learn a move on line then go outside and practice it. He sleeps with a soccer ball, and not because he loves the ball necessarily, but he informed me that it was because if he dies in his sleep he will die with a ball in his arms. Really? He looks just like Jeremy but I'm afraid he's picked up his little crazy competitive nature from someone else.

So it just so happened that Utah gets it's first MLS stadium built in Sandy for the Salt Lake Real in October. Carter's b-day is in Oct. The last two home games were to be played at the brand new fabulous Rio Tinto Stadium a few days before, and a few days after his 9th birthday. The last home game was three days after his birthday, on a Saturday night, right after his soccer teams last outdoor game (they took first place, only having one goal scored on them the whole season...go Rebel's). You see where I'm going with this. I know you agree with me that we had to do it. Throw in a visit from Leo the Lion with a goodie bag full of miscellaneous Real items, a signed soccer ball by all the players, a scarf, and much more. We had to. Not to mention his name put on the 'brand new' jumbo-tron in the 'brand new' soccer stadium. We went ahead and did it! We took his entire soccer team to the game. That's right 11 crazy boys to a professional soccer game with thousands of other fan's. Why? It was a historical moment, and because it made his life.

We didn't tell Carter until his actual birthday, so he had started begging for just him and I to go to the game and also begging for a soccer party at the park. Little did he know we had already planned both, and all the boys had no idea. This is when he found out, and I'll just say the hugs kept coming all day long!

Carter's actual birthday started up at the cabin with the tickets to the game.
He was seriously this happy for the next three days!

We had to drive clear down to LonePeak High School so he could play soccer.
He wouldn't let us miss it, especially on his birthday! He's sure good at the guilt trip!

As Carter would say...peace out!

Carter kept repeating "this is the best birthday ever" at the Real game. I say he better remember it, because he won't ever get another one even close to as cool as this one! And I have already told Alec NO WAYon the taking his entire team to a Jazz game! I still can't get the 'Ole, ole, ole, ole' song out of my head!

Okay, you and Jer deserve the parents of the year award. We briefly considered having a soccer party for Skylar also, but the name on the jumbo tron and the Leo the Lion visit would have never occurred to me. You rock!

True true. Maybe you just had tear-inducing music playing, but that was the sweetest happiest thing I've ever seen!! Good job, mom.
